UP Extends Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Deadline by One Week; Enumeration Now Till December 11

Lucknow: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Uttar Pradesh has been extended by one week. On Sunday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa announced that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved revised timelines for the state’s SIR exercise based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026.

According to the CEO, the enumeration period has now been extended until December 11, 2025. The rationalisation and reorganisation of polling stations will also be completed by the same date. Between December 12 and December 15, officials will carry out updates to the control table and prepare the draft electoral rolls.

The draft publication of electoral rolls will take place on December 16, 2025. From December 16, 2025 to January 15, 2026, claims and objections from citizens will be accepted.

From December 16, 2025 to February 7, 2026, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will process notices, verify enumeration forms, and dispose of claims and objections. The CEO added that the state will seek approval from the Commission for final publication on February 10, 2026, while the final electoral roll will be published on February 14, 2026.

Rinwa informed that Uttar Pradesh has already digitised over 10.75 crore enumeration forms, amounting to nearly 70% of the total. Digitisation work at 9,177 polling stations has been completed by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

He advised all District Election Officers that, with the revised timelines, officials—especially BLOs—should not feel pressured. Adequate time is available to complete the remaining tasks, and officers who are behind schedule should be provided necessary support.

Before the publication of the draft rolls, BLOs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties will hold meetings at each polling booth. During these meetings, BLOs will share lists of voters whose names may not appear in the draft rolls for various reasons, ensuring corrective action before finalisation.

This extension is expected to streamline the revision process and ensure a more accurate and updated electoral roll across Uttar Pradesh.
